Receives UNHCR Recognition for Long-Term Support
Kuwait, 6 July 2019: Al Hamra joined UNHCR and other prominent organizations to commemorate World Refugee Day, an annual ceremony that aims to highlight the refugee cause, along with the strength and resilience of more than 70 million refugees, and forcibly displaced persons around the globe.
To mark the international day, senior government officials, business leaders, academia, civil society activists and media personals came together in a ceremony held under the auspices of H.E Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid AlHamad Al-Sabah - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, who was represented by H.E Ambassador Nasser AlHain - Assistant Foreign Minister for International at UN House Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah building on 20 June 2019.
First started 19 years ago, World Refugee Day is observed in more than 100 countries to raise awareness of the plight of refugees and those internally displaced due to conflict or natural disasters. This year’s theme is #StepwithRefugees, inviting everyone to take big and small steps in solidarity of refugees.
As every year, Al Hamra Business Tower was lit in blue to demonstrate its continued support of World Refugee Day. Its observation of the World Refugee Day is in line with its commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 17 aiming to build partnerships for the global goals. This is the 3rd year Al Hamra joins the global movement and it reflects its long-term commitment to vulnerable communities more broadly.
Recognizing its contribution to the refugee movement, Al Hamra was awarded with a UNHCR plaque of appreciation by the Head of Office of UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the State of Kuwait, Dr. Samer Haddadin.
Receiving the honor, Abdullah Al Mansour, Marketing and Public Relations Manager at Al Hamra Real Estate Co., said:” Every minute, 20 people leave everything behind to escape war, persecution or terror. In this light, we believe it is our collective duty to voice support and call for humanitarian support for those who live in dire circumstances.

Kuwait, recognized by the United Nations as the International Humanitarian Center in 2014 has been a leader in the movement raising substantial funds to alleviate the situation of many. His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al Jaber Al-Sabah was proclaimed as ‘Humanitarian Leader for fulfilling his role in providing aid and support to refugees in different regions.
